Suzhou Garden Space Principles

Concept

This landscape design was inspired by The Suzhou Gardens in China, which were created with somewhat different principles than western culture using combinations of ponds, structures, and rocks to create an atmosphere of nature.

Final Product

One of the most defining features of a Suzhou Garden design is the use of viewpoints and line of sight. This invites the visitor to explore each far corner of the garden to uncover it.

Design and Build Landscape

This design took on the rectilinear 45 degree approach.

This scale model gives the client a 3D experience of the landscape where they can feel the privacy of the entry courtyard.

Backyard Plan

The broken glass style of hardscapes gives a naturalistic and informal feel welcoming relaxation and serenity.

Two-Hour Assignment

This timed assignment involved designing various landscapes to suit different needs, and includes a cross section of a cascading water feature.

Back Yard Terraces

This backyard hardscape was designed for a confined space that incorporates many levels.
