Custom Residence - Thornton, Colorado

I had a nearly exclusive involvement in the design of this home and completion of the construction drawings. This opportunity helped me develop responsibility and competency.

What a sense of satisfaction to see something you have worked so hard on become a physical reality.

Custom Residence - Erie Village, Colorado

It was a thrill to work on a house that mixed compact function with unique flair.

Custom Residence - Northglenn, Colorado

Working on the construction drawings for this home taught me about precision and perseverance over the many months of hard work.

Attention to detail is clearly demonstrated, from the intricate brick work to the fascia eyebrows.

This elegant home fits very nicely along the golf course, showing off its majestic columns.

Conceptual Sketches

Three concepts: Elevations of a cozy log cabin (left), a traditional looking library using modern materials (right), and a subdivision entrance to a mountain retreat (bottom left).

This high-rise idea started by taking a simple shape, a circle, and breaking it in two and offsetting the pieces to create an interesting addition to any skyline.

Various ideas for a grand entry (top left), community subdivision entrance (bottom left), and a cozy family gathering room (bottom right).

I pass a lot of time thinking on paper, coming up with designs for event centers (bottom right), museum entrances (bottom left), and the like.

These sketches were a great way to visualize and communicate the design of Sunrise Peaks to my instructor. Also includes an elevation of a music staff-inspired performing arts center.

Denver Temple Rendering

This two point perspective was drawn from an existing floor plan and colored and shaded with alcohol, dye-based ink.

Light and Shadows

Demonstration of direct interior light study, drawn in pencil.

Sun and shadow contrast, drawn in pencil.

Abstract Design

Mixtures of shapes and colors provoke abstract emotions and interpretations.

Suzhou Garden Space Principles

Concept

This landscape design was inspired by The Suzhou Gardens in China, which were created with somewhat different principles than western culture using combinations of ponds, structures, and rocks to create an atmosphere of nature.

Final Product

One of the most defining features of a Suzhou Garden design is the use of viewpoints and line of sight. This invites the visitor to explore each far corner of the garden to uncover it.

Design and Build Landscape

This design took on the rectilinear 45 degree approach.

This scale model gives the client a 3D experience of the landscape where they can feel the privacy of the entry courtyard.

A street view of the front yardscape.

Backyard Plan

The broken glass style of hardscapes gives a naturalistic and informal feel welcoming relaxation and serenity.

Two-Hour Assignment

This timed assignment involved designing various landscapes to suit different needs, and includes a cross section of a cascading water feature.

Back Yard Terraces

This backyard hardscape was designed for a confined space that incorporates many levels.
